Cindy
Strom of the Law Office of Cynthia A. Strom, PA., has been practicing
law in the area of Social Security disability since she became
licensed as an attorney in NC.
She received her JD from the University of
Tennessee Law School in 1990. She started her own firm in 2003
after being a partner at Ganly Ramer and Strom.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Cindy was a registered nurse for
16 years practicing in a variety of areas including home health,
infection control and geriatric nursing. She graduated from Barry
College in Miami, Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree
(BSN). She started and finished her nursing career in the US Navy
- first on active duty in San Diego at the end of the Viet Nam war,
and then upon recall to the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander for Operation
Desert Storm (the first Gulf war).
Cindy is a member of many professional organizations
including the 28th Judicial Bar (Buncombe County), NC Association
of Women Attorneys, NC Advocates for Justice- Disability Advocacy
Section, American Association for Justice- Social Security Disability
Section, National Organization of Social Security Claimant's Representatives
and the American Bar Association.
Ms. Strom frequently volunteers to speak at professional
seminars to further the education of other attorneys in the area
of Social Security Disability. And she is the Benefits Team Chair
of the Pro Bono Committee of the 28th Judicial Bar - helping coordinate
Pro Bono (free) legal services for those obtaining disability benefits.
She works extensively as a volunteer lawyer for Mountain Area
Volunteer Lawyers providing hundreds of hours of her time every
year. She was awarded the William Throp Outstanding Service Award
by the 28th Judicial Bar in 2005 and again in 2008.
Additionally,
she is very supportive of local non profit organizations, having
been on the board of Pisgah
Legal Services for years,
and now being on the board of Loving
Food Resources-
a local food bank for HIV+ and terminal persons. In 2007, Ms.
Strom was awarded the Founder's Award for outstanding Volunteer
Service by Loving Food Resources. She was instrumental in the
startup and continues to support ACCESS
Independent Living, another
local nonprofit serving disabled persons.
She regularly supports other legal non profits in their quest
for legal justice. Additionally she speaks to disability support
groups and medical professionals in the community about Social
Security disability.
Ms. Strom is assisted by a knowledgeable
